Since many people find losing weight difficult at best, it is not surprising that people look to diet pills to help them achieve their goals. While there are no known diet pills or supplements that will replace exercise and changes in eating, there are a variety of effective weight loss pills that will help speed up the process. In the last few years many people have begun using hoodia for weight loss.Most people have heard of hoodia but are not sure what it is or how it works. Hoodia is a cactus like plant that is found mainly in South Africa. Interest in using hoodia for weight loss began when it was discovered that inhabitants of the Kalahari desert have been using this plant to help suppress their appetites. Since stores of food and water are limited in the desert, Kalahari natives would eat this plant to help stave off hunger pains.

Studies have been shown that rats who were injected with the component of hoodia that is believed to suppress appetites did eat less than other rats who were in the control group. Additionally, another study has shown that people who were given hoodia for weight loss consumed 1,000 calories less per day than those who had not been given the drug.

While it seems clear that hoodia is a natural appetite suppressant, the weight loss drug is still being tested for side effects, though none have been conclusively found so far. Still, for people looking for a way to cut down on snack cravings and lower their caloric intake, hoodia appears to be an excellent choice.

Diets That Work Fast For Men

The diets that work fast for men are those that are low in carbohydrates and high in proteins. Men quickly lose weight on these diets because they eliminate refined carbohydrates such as sugars, white bread, rice and other processed food. These foods encourage the body to produce excessive insulin. High levels of insulin interfere with the process that breaks down fat in the body. Two examples of these are the Atkins diet and the South Beach diet. Both diets have a jump-start phase. It is during this period that carbohydrates are restricted and it is also when most of the weight loss occurs. Men experience a surge in energy during the first phases of these diets. This is a good time to incorporate or increase exercise for a more permanent weight  loss.

Both of these diets that work fast for men rely on two different metabolic processes of the body. The Akins diet coaxes the body to enter into ketosis. This is the process by which the body uses the energy of the stored fat while maintaining the protein in the muscles. The South Beach diet works on the glycemic level which determines at what rate the food is digested and glucose enter the bloodstream. Both of these processes signal how quickly the person is hungry for food again. Carbohydrates are increased during the second phase of each of the diets. The South Beach diet encourages leaner meats and poultry but the Atkins diet does not.

While these diets that work fast for men are a good starting point, it is not advisable to adhere to them on a long term basis. There are other diets better suited for a healthier life style and weight maintenance.
