Gluten Free Diet
As more people are being diagnosed with celiac disease, which is an allergy or intolerance to gluten, doctors and dietitians have become aware of the benefits of a gluten free diet. Gluten a protein that is most often found in wheat, rye, barley and wheat hybrids. It is frequently used in foods as an additive, for flavoring or thickening. People diagnosed with celiac are put on gluten free diets, and in addition to reducing fatigue and digestive issues, many people following these meal plans lost weight. While it is still up for debate as to why removing gluten from someone’s diet leads to weight loss, many speculate that it is due to cutting processed foods, starches and carbohydrates out of people’s diets. Additionally, many doctors believe that people have problems ingesting gluten even if they are not allergic to it, meaning that eliminating gluten from people’s diets will give them more energy and improve their overall health.Other advantages of following a gluten free diet are that it focuses on eating a lot of fruits, vegetables and protein rich foods. Since this diet is becoming so popular, many food manufacturers have started making breads and pastas that are gluten free, so people do not have to eliminate grains from their diets. However, it is important to note that gluten free does not mean carb free. Be sure to look at labels when you are purchasing food that advertises it is gluten free to avoid overloading on carbs.A gluten free diet can improve people’s overall health and lead to weight loss, even if they do not have a gluten or wheat sensitivity.
