The 17 Day Diet

Losing weight is a challenging task of keeping calories and metabolism in balance. For those struggling to shed pounds, the 17 day diet plan may be helpful. It focuses on the loss of visceral and belly fat, and produces fast results.

The first 17 days are dedicated to low carbohydrate eating and restricted to plain fat-free yogurt, lean meats, non-starchy vegetables and fruit that is low in sugar. Eight glasses of water are required, as is green tea and a small serving of oil. The goal for this first stage is fluid loss and burning of fat, and daily intake should not exceed 1,200 calories.

The next phase of the 17 day diet involves cycling calories over days 18 to 34. This means the intake will vary from day to day, which keeps the body’s metabolism from slowing down. Foods are the same as in phase one, with two servings of whole grains added. Total calorie intake for any particular day should not go over 1,500, and the goal is variety to keep the body guessing.

There is also an option for a 100 calorie snack and one serving of an alcoholic beverage. After day 52, there should be a consistent cycling of all the phases to maintain weight, with a bit of splurging on the weekends. Caution should be exercised against too much bingeing. If more than five pounds of weight is gained back, an immediate return to phase two is required to balance out metabolism.
